Thank you for visiting the Wisconsin Affiliate of the American College of Nurse-Midwives.

This site serves as a resource for consumers interested in seeing a midwife for their own healthcare. You will find links to find a midwife in your area.  Read on to find out why you might choose a midwife for yourself.

The word "midwife" means "with woman."  Midwives provide women’s health care to women of all ages. Midwifery care includes prenatal care and attending births, postpartum (after birth care) and early infancy care, family planning services, and well-woman gynecologic health and wellness exams.

Midwives believe that women experiencing puberty, pregnancy, birth and menopause – the major transitions of women's lives should be partners in their own healthcare. Midwives also practice in a manner that enhances the health and normalcy of women’s wellness and that limits unnecessary interventions with technology and medication.  However, if medications and other approaches are indicated, midwives are Advanced Practice Nurse Prescribers fully licensed to make these treatments easily available to their clients. Nurse-midwives attend births in hospitals, birth centers and at home. The information in the Find a Midwife link will tell you which birth environment the midwives in your area uses.
